Hello Spacers and Speakers, Rem here with some news.
First, I want to say thank you SO MUCH for all the support that everyone has shown to this game since its launch. The reception, excitement, and feedback have all been wonderful and I’m so glad so many of you have loved this game. To everyone who purchased and played the game after launch, you will never know exactly how much your support meant to me, but please know that it meant a whole heck of a lot.
With that in mind, after careful consideration, I’ve decided to release Starhold for free from now on.
Times are tough. The cost of everything keeps going up. For a lot of people, myself included, it keeps getting harder and harder to find the money needed to support the games we love and still meet our fiscal responsibilities. And it gets even harder when you want to play a game with your friends, but not everyone owns it. There are a lot of amazing, excellent, worthy creators out there trying to build a business on their talent and passion for making TTRPGs, so how do you chose who to support when your money is limited? It’s hard.
I want to make that choice easier. I love Starhold, I love games, I love creating– but this isn’t my livelihood anymore. In the last couple years, I’ve shifted my focus to other creative endeavors (like streaming and art), and I’m also building my career in my chosen field as well. Updates and expansions to Starhold have been put on the backburner. I fear that my lack of updates and engagement with the community has kept it from growing, and the price adds an additional barrier.
I really do love this game. I had some incredibly hard times during and after Starhold’s release, as many of us have had, and seeing all the love, support, and creativity of the community really helped me. And I know there are a lot of people who love this game and want to help others fall in love with it too. So I hope that by making the game free for everyone, it will fall into the hands of the people who need it the most right now.
The game will continue to be available on DTRPG at the new price of $0. You can also download it for free on my Ko-Fi too, with a Pay What You Want option available if you’d like to use it, but there’s no pressure. If you’d like to support me in my other endeavors (like streaming or commissioning art) you can find that information on my Ko-Fi as well.
Thank you again so much for all the support. I hope that you continue to love the game, and I look forward to seeing what you do with it next!
See you space cowboy…
